A real estate agent, a hair dresser, a copywriter, and a nutritionist walk into a bar. No, it's not the start of a bad joke--it's the average supper meeting of the Island Tweethearts, a new PEI networking group.

The idea for the group was conceived during a casual lunch between Twitter enthusiasts Carol O'Hanley, a Charlottetown real estate agent and April Ennis, a Summerville resident in the midst of launching an online magazine.

April1.jpgCarol1.jpg

"Carol was talking about her husband, Steve, also a real estate agent, who meets regularly with friends over lunch to network. I mentioned that I'd recently started meeting for dinner once a month with a group of mothers also affected by autism," states Ennis who is working on finishing her Bachelor of Business in Tourism and Hospitality. Ennis adds, "Carol proposed that we do something similar so we started building a small group of women we knew from Twitter, each with different professional backgrounds, with whom to share food, ideas, support, and wine every month."

The first official meeting of the Island Tweethearts took place in May at The Pilot House. The group was made up of six women. Besides Ennis and O'Hanley, the group consisted of holistic nutritionist Rachelle Wood, owner of Insight Marketing Kerry Ann MacDougall, photographer (myself) and UPEI researcher and lecturer Cheryl Wartman.

Rachelle1.jpg

Since then, the group has grown to twelve where it has been capped to help keep the meetings intimate. Each Tweetheart represents a different industry. Rounding out the group of twelve are freelance editor Christine Gordon Manley, freelance copywriter Jaime Lee Mann, owner of Rita's Style, Julie MacIsaac, mortgage broker Lori MacDonald, IT consultant Esther Duncan, and Jen MacKinnon who works in business development with a local IT Firm.

Jen1.jpg

This group has quickly become very tight, with many members connecting at multiple times throughout the month to chat, drink coffee, and/or toss around business ideas. "It's a tremendous source of support, especially for someone like me who has worked from home for so long," states Jaime Lee Mann, owner of Morell-based Mann Made Copy.

Jamie1.jpg

And the support doesn't just stay within the group either. "One thing that was important to us was the idea of giving back to the community somehow," states O'Hanley. She adds, "At every supper, we each chip in $10. We then discuss as a group who we want to help out that month. The first time we did this we had $100 to give to a Twitter friend who was having a difficult pregnancy. The second time, we decided to donate the money to a local family one of us knew was going through a financially draining personal situation."

"We decided that helping one Islander every month was actually a wonderful thing," adds Christine Gordon Manley, owner of CGM Editing. "Often times there are many people who need help but can't access help for whatever reason. And, even more often are those of us who simply need a pick-me-up to help them out of a temporary situation. A hundred dollars or so isn't much, but it can make someone smile, and that's what we want to do."

The Tweethearts do not publicize who they help to protect the privacy of those who accept their donation. You can read more about these acts of Tweetheart kindness here.

I just wanted to address an common thread that seems to come to me with my boudoir friends. It is about how normal it is to be nervous about doing a session - trust and believe me on this one. Every single girl who comes through the door is freaking out a little bit, whether or not she shows it to me within seconds of walking through the door or minutes after makeup starts when she blurts it out. I have people come in and walk in circles, scared to cross in the door from the hall, and girls just shaking. It is all completely normal. I wanted everyone to know this so that they know how others feel.

The exact opposite of above happens when they are finished. I love when girls cannot stop smiling when they leave, or tell me that they feel relieved that they went through with the session. It is like the girls on a bit of a rush, and feel so empowered after completely the session.

Keep on smiling :-)

60 years of love, family & giving is what I celebrate today. My mom turns 60 years old. I cannot even believe it. To me, she should still be around 40 years old. It seems like yesterday she was up every morning getting us ready for school, making sure our pizza was in our lunch bags, and breakfast was on the table. Can you believe that? Everyone morning after dragging us out of bed and most likely battling a few fights between my brother & I, she had breakfast on the table for us.

The family celebrated her birthday on Sunday afternoon, with a ton of delicious food, gifts and of course one of my sister's traditional "I can make you cry" sideshows. I love our family gatherings not because of the above mentioned but because I love my family so much that I cannot get enough of them. Their is a ton of nuttiness mixed with love, and that is no better mixture around.

My mother is a wonderful, caring & loving person who I am proud to call my mom. Happy Birthday Mom. I hope 60 is your best year yet.

It is funny how you are placed on the plane with people when traveling, A random drawing of names and numbers. Some you strike up amazing conversation and others you don't even make eye contact. Don't you have to wonder if the universe places you with certain people for a reason? I recently sat next to a women, who told me all about how she moved to Canada from her home country of Korea, where she is now as a women treated very differently. She was on her way back to Korea to face her family for the first time since she up and left. She told me many of the differences between Canada and her homeland and how women are treated. We talked the whole 4 hour flight non stop. I couldn't get enough of her stories. Luckily no one was sitting between us!

I believe things happen for a reason. Everything, and I mean everything is a test of some sort from the universe. Many people react differently to different events, and some thrive on stress or change. We talked about our common belief in the universe and how we likely were meant to sit together on the plane. She was reading a book and took out her book mark to show me.

Two women from two different worlds & upbringings. I knew at that exact moment when I read that bookmark that we were definitely meant to come into each others lives.

I know most people would never describe me as shy. I sometimes can be though. I always come across as outgoing, but their sometimes can be that part of me that wants to hide in the corner until someone comes over to me and says hi! Photography has definitely helped me become the best person I can be. It is like something takes over when I hold the camera. I forget everything around me including shyness. I love how people such as Michelle can instantly feel at ease with me enough to let me do photos of her!

One of the most awesome, funnest reasons for doing photography is that I get to meet such sweet, amazing people. I met Michelle through another friend of mine, who I have known now for years. I had always heard about M and how sweet and awesome of a person she was. When I finally did get to meet her I was ecstatic! M was everything that my friend had described and more! I dragged her outside for a few quick photos as the snow was falling so gently and I got these pics. Can you say beautiful & photogenic much????

I wanted to address the issue of confidentiality with my readers in regards to Boudoir or for that matter any of my sessions. I take it very seriously and would never breach this intentionally.

I am a very honest and loyal person and I can promise that I would feel worst than you would if your photos were seen and you didn't want them to be. I will post them to my blog if you are pumped about them and don't mind me showing them off. That would be my honor.

Will you tell people about me having a session?
No, absolutely not, I will however say I had a "BEAUTIFUL inside and out client" doing a boudoir session. All my clients are Beautiful ;-)

How do I choose the blog photos?
I will choose a few from the session out of your favorites and then ask for your permission to use. Until I have your permission and the go ahead they will not appear anywhere in my promotions or on my blog.

Can I have a few for facebook?
Yes, I don't mind sending you a few lo resolution logo'd ones for facebook or other online sites.

Will I be used in promotion?
You will only be used in promotions if you agreed that you want to be.

When do I have to decide if I want to be blogged or not?
Whenever you wish. You can decide after you see the photos. Some clients let me know before or during the shoot. Others decide that after they see the photos that they are promoting beauty and don't mind at all giving me the go ahead!

Where do you get your images printed?
I print my boudoir along with all other images, out of country, so that complete confidentiality is served. I will order express post if I have promised images will arrive in time, and take the charge upon myself to make sure they get here.

(01.28.10)

Nice to see that you believe in the clients confidentiality, I think as a potential client that makes me more interested in Boudoir shoots. Thanks for letting me know.

Thanks for posting this. Nice to know that unless I ask you will never use my photos and that no one knows my surprise for my fiancee! Can't wait to show him, he is gonna FLIP!

So Julie & Matt are the cutest. I should have a contest to see what couple of mine is the cutest. Oh my, that would never work. I think they are all the cutest. Cute to me doesn't just describe physical features, but mental features as well and how people interact. Some examples of cute would be how Matt would be sweet to Julie .... or how Julie would look and giggle at Matt...CUTE! Of course they are physically cute as well as you can see below!

Engagement Sessions are so important...to both me and my couples. I get to spend a little time with my cute couples and see how they react to my studdering and foolishness and to each other all the while getting some fun shots of them. I think engagement sessions are important to the couple as well so they can relax regarding the photography portion of the wedding day knowing that photography is not going to be a concern. I love seeing people in love and feel so comfortable around each other.

That is how I would describe these two. It was almost as if the world around them fell away as soon as they were close. It was like I wasn't even there, which I loved because I captured their love for real.

P.S I love being a photographer of love.

P.S.S No one ever said I was a writer ;-)

I went to see "The Christmas Carol" the other night with my family in Summerside at the Jubilee Theater. Even little Sparky Ming Ming was there, and she liked it too. I thought she would be scared of it but apparently, I am the scared-e cat in the family! My mother also took her to see it in 3D at the Theaters.

While Ebenezer Scrooge was haunted by the ghost of Christmas past I thought about my Christmas past. I definitely wish that I could go back in time and be a child trying sooooo hard to stay awake Christmas Eve. I used to think up elaborate plans in order for me to see Santa Claus. It would never happen. I couldn't stay awake that long, and today I am the same.

All my memories of Christmas Past are great ones (except the year when I received Baby Alive & my brother fed it all of it's food, and broke it), not just because of the presents that were brought by Santa. It was the sheer innocence of the excitement and the events that surrounded it. Their was always family involved, lots of music and lots of yummy food (check me lovin' the turkey below lol). Today is not much different, except our physical appearances have changed, the excitement in our hearts remains.

OK look at this cute family. I did these pics this past fall, after we tried over and over scheduling with problems due to scheduling and weather. I was glad to finally get together with them and complete it and I hope it won't be the last shoot I do with them.

I met Jaclyn & Jeff years and years ago, and always thought that they were the cutest pair. Now look what they have gone and done...got even cuter! World Look Out! Little Sadie is now a part of the Smith family! Can she get any cuter??
